The redesign of the Jubail City Entrance Clock Tower is a powerful blend of old and new, creating a unique landmark. It combines modern steel architecture with traditional Saudi designs like the mashrabiya and arch shapes.
The design features a sleek, digital clock and elegant JRC arches with a concrete look. A mashrabiya screen at the back hides the maintenance stairs, keeping the tower looking clean and consistent.
The most distinctive feature is the striking fountain at the base. This water element has a dual meaning: it represents Jubail’s status as a major industrial city and its history with the pearling industry. Crucially, the presence of water is key to reflecting life and nature in the design.
This emphasis on nature is amplified by integrating the symbolism of the flamingo—a bird well-known in Jubail’s ecology. By showcasing the flamingo alongside the water, the design beautifully captures the vibrant life and natural beauty that thrive even in an industrial setting.
